Worm planetary drives offer high level of output torque transmission in compact and space saving design compared to conventional worm drive. CYCLO worm planetary drives have the following features:
Higher efficiency compared to equivalent worm drive. Compact design. High power to weight ratio. Higher ratios available in same size as of a conventional worm drive.
Principle
The principle of the Cyclo worm planetary drives is based on a simple worm and worm wheel drive combined with planetary gear mechanism.
The first stage of the drive consists of a simple worm drive transmitting power at right angle. The output from the worm drive is given to a planetary stage where further reduction is achieved. A simple planetary gearbox comprises of sun gear, planet, planet carrier assembly that comprises of carrier and the planets rotating at constant centers along with the planet carrier. The input is from the sun gear and the drive motion through the planet carrier via planets and the ring gear is stationary. The rolling contact of the planets with the ring gear provides the appropriate reduction ratio.
